Tongues are wagging about a new centre of excellence that will be built as the new home for N.S.W. Greyhound racing for when racing ceases at Wentworth Park.

Apparently it will have 2 Tracks and will be located at Cawdor !

I hope the rumours are correct on this one !

Unfortunately the N.S.W. GBOTA will be running the venue, if true it is almost a certainty that
this centre of excellence will never see FOL racing.

That's a great area to have it , if its true , not far off the freeway, close to the new airport and far enough away from Richmond to provide an alternative city venue

Sandro, i sincerely hope the " SOFF CHASE" (safe chase) is in the bin by the time it is built. An abomination, and a not so wise man must have signed off on it. A very expensive snot rag on a stick. I have yet to meet anyone who has a positive word. I hope Goulburn is not contemplating it's use.

Good luck getting approval for a complex at Cawdor. The proposed site is about 1km from Camden shops and this year so far, has had flood waters cover parts of the property on 3 occasions.
Another fact to be taken into consideration is a submission for a future Islamic High School on a site only 250 metres from the possible greyhound development, was overwhelmingly rejected by authorities several years ago. There were extensive organized community protests to this proposal which made the nightly news bulletins on national television. I can envisage a similar scenario to a greyhound track development.
Our development can only be approved on industrial/special purpose zoned land IMO

************************ IMPORTANT MEETING **************

One of our concerned participants informed me that there is a Wollondilly GC Meeting at the hall next to Thirlmere Trial Track. The meeting is on this Sunday, 16 October commencing 7pm to discuss the running of the Trial Track / Education Centre. GRNSW staff will be in attendance.

Please advise everyone that it is an important meeting to attend if you can get to it.

Update on MNC Racing.

The Taree Track underwent some remedial work in front of the 314m boxes and two weeks later trainers can't nominate for that distance. They've had two washed out meetings.

A couple of weeks ago, the Kempsey Track underwent remedial work allegedly done by contractor of GRNSW which damaged the track so no racing and trialling. However, racing and trialling are expected to return in a couple of more weeks. One of the cancelled meetings recently there I was given permission to walk the track where I found it good to race. However, it was just my opinion. That day, a hailstorm came that would have struck the track 3/4 of the way through the meeting and definitely damaged vehicles so there was a consolation prize.

Wauchope (no race dates allocated) is in the process of trialling this Sunday. Check with secretary.

Any news on the new track at Chinderah? Weren't we told that the NSW Govt was going to `bypass local council' and rubber stamp the track development? What has happened since? Anyone?

*************** Fantastic News *****************

From Rex Nairn at Wauchope's HRGRC - MNC NSW

Trainers we have an open day on Thursday 3rd November 2022. Free trials, free lunch, meet local member Melinda Pavey, GRNSW CEO and others from GRNSW, see Fire Legend's solo attempt to break her own track record.

It all starts at 10.00am, lunch from 12.00noon speeches and ribbon cutting trials then resume at 12.30pm till 2.00pm.

Spectators welcome, lunch provided.

All greyhounds will be kennelled and trialled in racing rugs. Come along and witness the re-opening of the Hastings River Greyhound Racing Club.

All welcome.

Well done Rex and Committee. We definitely need a one turn track on the MNC, especially a grassed track. From a recent photo, the track looked in great order.

Just a look into the future here G.D ers but what about the future of W.P ? I heard the GBOTA has a extended 50 year option on the lease which is on the table in 5years time. I personally believe the GBOTA should keep the extension on the lease & not sell out W.P & all its history etc etc Be like selling a home that was built by a family many generations ago to remain in the family. Any comments out there most welcome as I believe this issue must be addressed now sooner rather than later. All the best......

If thats the case Steve. Then to get out of Wenty, should see us be able to pick and choose where we go. Anything less by the GBOTA, will be selling out the industry!

If we don't build something similar or superior then what is the use in going? The T'Breds wouldn't expect anything less. However, the more we regionalise our sport the better we might become, but we have to have two turn and one turn tracks not far from each other and within two hours of driving to the next two turn and one turn tracks e.g.s. The Gardens / Maitland, Grafton / Casino (more a saucer than a two turn track) and Wagga Wagga / Temora / Goulburn ? We should have a two turn and one turn track on the MNC.

It's a pity Mudgee was forceably closed as it could have been developed into a really good one turn track.

Do you think GRNSW would entertain the idea of allowing trainers to scratch only once and not twice in a row (unless injured, etc) when trainers deem a race to be unsuitable and there are reserves available for the race?

Stay with me here.... it has been happening with the gallopers for decades and horse trainers and horses are not penalised. Our industry allows for six dog fields all of the time now so no big deal with size of fields anyway.

Recently, we have had the situation where tracks have needed to be inspected a day before or on the day of the race meeting and subsequently GWIC has abandoned meetings due to the state of the track or whatever. That is no criticism necessarily of their decision, but a problem develops when the trainer cannot nominate for another race that is going to be held a day, two or three days after the abandoned meeting because nominations have closed a day or two before the abandoned meeting.

We as trainers should be given the opportunity to scratch without penalty, provided that there are reserves available for the race that you are scratching from. Perhaps a limit of one scratching per month so the new rule doesn't get messy.

What do you think?

*************************************************

On another note, Wauchope is back trialling and they have non-TAB racing dates in late December. There are Heats and Final for the Wauchope Cup worth $10,000 (bumped up recently courtsey of Tweed Heads GRC) plus the Butch Monkley Maidens.

Happy racing and safe travels.

I don't know about you, but the broadcast of feature greyhound races in Victoria on racing.com, which is free to air t.v. last Saturday and the Saturday before has been nothing short of brilliant! Who would have thought? On that note, I managed to have a few bets on some of those races, as well as Wenty Park, which I normally don't do.

Anyway, it was great to see the Shootout with She's A Pearl doing her best against three other super dogs, especially Wow She's Fast. In open space, the latter would beat any dog. She is a big strong bitch and it was evident when she drove past our NSW bitch, She's A Pearl who hung on for an exceptional second. We are talking about the current best of the best greyhounds that are racing.

Well done to connections of all dogs, racing.com and GRV. I think racing.com will televise another feature racing this Saturday coming. Congratulations once again.

I couldn't believe it when the previous GBOTA CEO announced they had agreed to get out of Wenty without a replacement signed, sealed & delivered.Same as buying a new car-you drive in hand over the keys to your old car (trade in ) & drive out with the new one.- not rocket science-You wouldn't trust a new car salesmans word if he said "we'll look after you"- no you sign a contract-so who would trust the Gov't not to go back on their word-they are experts at it.
So maybe the Directors should advise our new GBOTO CEO (who seems to have the right stuff to mix it ) to go back on our word until a very suitable replacement is built.

Maybe the G.B.O.T.A should do as they are told and find a new place or better still hand everything over to G.R.N.S.W the industry is moving forward and wentworth park is going G.B.O.T.A should of taken the money and run years ago , if something goes wrong they only have themselves to blame.

Rex Nairn wanted everybody to know that after the Xmas Carnival at Hastings River GRC (Wauchope) GRNSW has allocated further non-TAB dates to the club into the new year.

Well done to Rex and the club. Keeping MNC racing alive.

I think it is time to change our race day lure to a straight arm with 2 lures pretty much like the one in Victoria I am sick of the hoop arm with a swinging lure where dogs run out on the turns and back in when the lure straightens .

Prizemoney recently for 1 turn tracks was lifted just to see the response for dogs who were nominated for a distance longer than 440m it was a shame to see how one of my favourite tracks Bulli only had 2 x472m and 1 x 515m with not full fields. In my opinion this was always going to be on when they put that 340m start in ,it is a shame to see this top speed 1 turn track turn into what it is today every dog can run 400 and if you are stronger you can move on to 472m,the 340m start has taken over half the program each week that in turn when you only have a couple of 400m and 472m races dogs get graded bad and people do not nominate . Lets get back to the good old days and use the 340m start for break ins, and only have 400 and above for first class racing the 340 dogs will become 400 dogs simple, then it will be easy for the grader to grade dogs well.

Or add a distance categories to grade for sub 350m and have a very sharp rise to top grade across the board so that it forces connections to 400m to chase 5th grade wins

Steve Harvey-You & I seem to be on the same wave length-Stay at Wenty till they not only propose something as good or better but until the new track (flood Free) is constructed & ready for a seamless change over one week to another.Actually unless there is a reason the authorities aren't telling us I really cannot see any reason to leave Wenty & am in definite favour in staying there.
Imagine if the government put pressure on the thoroughbreds to vacate Randwick-they would tell them to go fly a kite-just as our management should now--Why haven't our Directors got any intestinal fortitude.I think it's time they answered the big question -why are they prepared to get out on a promise & a prayer when the lease is worth at least $50,000,000 to the Government.
