Dan why don't you contact your Member Rep, they should be able to tell you what they can and can't vote on at a General Meeting. Then you can post what you were told.
If they tell you they can vote on issues such as the closure of clubs, introduction of FOL etc then ask them why they have not called a General Meeting to vote on same.
But if they tell you they can only vote on certain things as I have posted then you should consider the matter closed.

Sue you were wrong about the one vote each episode and could say you're wrong again now. You were at a meeting where i spoke to a rep about GQL general meetings, you know, meetings of the company. And while this is what they are trying to achieve, some are making things difficult. The old GRA board was replaced with the company, GQL. This company consists of currently 10 members, class A and B. These members who form this company should meet to carry out business as usual as stated by law. However if you had your ears open at that meeting you wouldve heard some discussion re general meetings, and the opportunities for class A members re these general meetings were being withheld. They're working on it Sue, they know what the rules state and their entitlements as class A members. Meetings should've been penciled in already but feel its something a few want to avoid badly.

Dan ring your member rep and ask when the last time was that they requested a General Meeting with the Board, then ask if they attended that meeting or if their opportunity to attend was withheld as you state, also ask if there has been any other occasions when their opportunity to attend a General Meeting had been denied. Then get back to us. The only mention I can find on their site regarding a meeting with the Board was on 12th November last year following the AGM of the Board of Directors.
The Telephone No for the member rep is available on their website.

Bundaberg Greyhound club has got the funds approved for a new lure.
This article was on the queensland greyhound website.
14 Oct, 2009. GREYHOUNDS Queensland has approved funding for an upgrade of the lure system at the Bundaberg track. The club in recent times has experienced mechanical problems with the system which currently operates under the Bramich system. Replacement parts for this lure system no longer are available. GQL will provide a new running rail, rail posts and installation of a cable lure system similar to that used at both Albion Park and Ipswich. Work is expected to start late in November and take two weeks to complete. Unfortunately two race meetings are expected to be lost in this time. GQL and the club will look to reschedule these meetings before June 30, 2010. A replacement set of starting boxes will also be installed for the 550m point during the upgrade.END
Great to see some money put into the bundaberg track. Being a country track, i am sure the new lure and starting boxes will be appreciated. These funds used at the track will also give the members some confidence in the future of greyhound racing in Bundaberg. Great Positive move for the future of Greyhound racing in QLD.

Been discussed on a few sites over a number of years, about time. Should bring those back that refused to go there because of the lure problems. A positive for the industry in Qld, what next?????

Letter to the Editor Dear Sir, A few of my thoughts on Brisbane racing as Im very close to pulling the pin. Give all trainers at meetings two plastic muzzles each or send out $40 and set a date for the introduction of plastic muzzles on race day. Hence no more dogs getting spiked on the lure. Reintroduce weekend racing like every other state then more dogs can race twice a week. People who work during the week can go to the meeting with their kids. We will be able to retrieve our lost meeting as you would find a lot more nominations. Also Sky show us South Africa and New Zealand racing. They should consider their local product as one day the way things are going there will be no greyhounds left in Queensland. Albion should have 11 races on race day as they have the kennel space until weekend racing starts otherwise the 70 odd dogs that cant get a start each week will find themselves at the blood bank. Prizemoney has not kept pace with inflation as 17 years ago at Beenleigh, a Class 3 track, we were racing for $600 a win. To close a meeting to increase prizemoney is not the answer. As the allocation from the TAB is due in a couple of years, we should be lobbying yesterday for a better %, plus back pay for the millions and millions we have missed out on over the years otherwise the horses and trots will just stand all over us as they have done before and are still doing. Look at the laying of little gravel from the car park at Albion to the kennels. Horses have shoes, dogs dont. What of the closure of the four southeast tracks. I figured less overheads, rent, wages etc will result in more prizemoney as all under one roof. Somehow I figured wrong. What did happen though was an exodus of people from the industry like Vic Sorrenson, John Thompson, Byron Miller, Gavin Lowe, Reg Kay, Sarah Pringle (I wont go on as this is a letter not a book) moved to Casino way for better prizemoney and unplaced monies. Somehow I missed the boat as Im too old to move now. The way we are losing racetracks, meetings, trainers, owners, in a few years time in Queensland it will be the last one on the track please turn the lights out

No Sue, i'm not a licencee. Definately discriminating yet typical tactics employed by this state. Theres more involved but will not go into it other than say there will be fun times ahead.
I agree with the letter published in the Journal. I also feeel for Dan and his situation of being disqualified. I am by no means a major player in the greyhound industry and will not be missed. But the way things are handled in this state finds me considering two options.
1. Sending my dogs to Victoria. The GRV only seemed to be going forward, from strength to strength. It makes little difference watching on Sky if they're racing in Qld or Vic. Also the way they treat particapants. I get the feeling I'm a nuisance.
2. Race horses instead. You can buy a share in a thoroughbred that is well bred and trained by an established city trainer for the same rate as buying a well bred pup, having it reared, broken in, ready to race.

Brendan you will also agree with Paul Dolans collumn and the comments from Ipswich Mayor in this weeks NGF. Having a council behind the greyhound people in the Ipswich and surrounding area sustains the value of the industry to the public and keeps people in jobs etc. However that may not stop the GQL board from transfering those meetings in the future to the new beaut Logan super track. Dont worry about me Brendan, it could well be those i know in the industry who are the next victims. The problem that will face the Qld industry is the Owners/trainers who have done their time, will just throw away there leads, had 30 odd years enjoyment up until the last decade and will move on quietly. Who is going to replace them, thats right not you or i. The Robartsons have not been in Qld too long, anyone tipping their move home in the next few years. Mals had first hand experiences and not one to be fucked over a fence like the many who have received it from this crew. The victimisation and discrimination continues, but mayby not for much longer.

IPSWICH MAYOR, Paul Pisasale spoke emotionally at the Ipswich Cup presentation, and had some words of advice for the sports controlling body, Greyhounds Queensland. They must look after regional centres, such as Ipswich, keeping as many people as possible involved in the sport, Cr. Pisasale said. He was referring to the likelihood of a new track being built at Underwood in Logan, on Brisbanes southside, and the possibility that GQL might want to relocate the Ipswich track and dates to there. If they think the Ipswich area, where so many greyhound breeding and training properties are based, is going to service some megatrack that they have in mind elsewhere, they should think twice, because we, as a council, wont support that, the Mayor said. This council supports greyhound racing directly with sponsorship of the Ipswich Cup and sensible rules and bylaws for people with greyhound properties. We wouldnt do all that if our track is ever taken away. Its like the libraries, they dont make the council any money, but they are a service for the people. Its the same with a greyhound track. The fact that it employs people and gives families so much fun and enjoyment is so important to retain. The mayor met last week with the Ipswich GRC committee to listen to their concerns, and pledged his support. Its a pity nobody from GQL was here for the Cup. I would have chewed their ear. Maybe thats what they were afraid of, he said. To me, greyhound racing is not about having some megatrack with no atmosphere purely for TAB and television coverage. Its about the enjoyment people get by going along and participating. Greyhounds Queensland Limited has said there is no intention of closing down Ipswich or Capalaba tracks. But people have memories of what happened with Lawnton, Toowoomba, Beenleigh, the Gold Coast, Ayr, Mount Isa and Mackay, all of which have been closed for various reasons since 1995. Shutting the Gold Coasts Parklands track and Mount Isa, and to some extent Ayr, were not GQL decisions, but the others were.

I don't own or race dogs in QLD anymore, for the plethora of reasons stated in this thread.
And I'm reasonably well heeled and an active participant in this great sport.
No wonder there are bugger all young owners or trainers coming through in QLD.

Did you ever own or race dogs in Qld Terry? How many, how often? And acually there are many young owners and trainers coming through in Qld.
I do really think Mayor Pisasale should do a bit of research before shooting his mouth off and the same goes for Paul Dolan before he publishes it.
If Mayor Pisasale had spoken to his council or the Committee of the Ipswich Club or even his own brother in law who is a member of the Board he would know that the future of the Ipswich track has been discussed between all parties and what he has stated is a load of uneducated rot.

From today's Queensland Times (by Paul Dolan). I should imagine Paul will be putting the same retraction in the NGF.
The chair of Greyhounds Queensland (GQ) Kerry Watson has responded to comments made in this column last week concerning the future of greyhound racing at the Ipswich Showgrounds.
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale stated at the recent City of Ipswich Gold Cup meeting that the sports controlling body should be fostering greyhound racing at Ipswich, and planning for its future in this district.
What concerns Cr Pisasale, and many industry participants, are two matters.
Is the proposed new greyhound track at Underwood, in Logan City, being planned as a replacement for Ipswich? And what will happen to greyhound racing in Ipswich should the day come when the Showgrounds are either sold or resumed?
We met with members of the Ipswich committee about a month ago and gave them our clear intention, which is for greyhound racing to remain in the Ipswich area, Watson said.
Logan is going ahead, and the industry can sustain three TAB tracks. We will build a one turn track at Logan, and retain Albion Park and Ipswich.
We envisage two TAB meetings per week at each of Ipswich, Logan and Albion Park.
WATSON says sustaining three venues within about a 50 kilometres radius wont be a problem, as the industry will own Logan, rather than being a tenant.
As for the possibility of the Ipswich Showgrounds being relocated, Watson says Racing Minister Peter Lawlor told her that will be at least five years away, if at all.
As happened with the Gold Coast, we would have no say in the matter, she said.
Its Crown land, and if the Government wants it back, they can do that.
But we dont intend to get caught out again. GQ director Chris Williams has been working with the Ipswich City Council for over 12 months, looking at land where a greyhound track could be built.
The greyhound club recently put another idea to us concerning a possible site, and Chris will investigate that shortly with them.
We realise and appreciate that Ipswich is one of the best councils as far as providing for greyhound racing participants is concerned. We have never had a spot of bother in any dealings with the council.
